Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are rapidly becoming the backbone of India's renewable energy transition. As the country pushes toward its ambitious 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030, the need for reliable grid-scale storage has never been more critical.
The challenge is simple: solar and wind are intermittent. The sun doesn't always shine, and the wind doesn't always blow. BESS provides the bridge — storing excess energy during peak generation and releasing it during high-demand periods.
India's Central Electricity Authority estimates that the country needs approximately 27 GW of battery storage by 2030. With policy support including Viability Gap Funding and must-run status for storage projects, the sector is poised for exponential growth.
